When John Legend isn’t being cheesy (rare, but it happens) I think he’s good. And I like this Adele song too, so when I came across the a capella version it was a bit of a no brainer to do a twist on it. There’s a lot of that kind of thing flying around these days but I just wanted to indulge myself. It makes for a a break from the more intense work on the album. French blog Lemellotron are currently running their Now Playing series which comprises of exclusive mixes from producers whose work they admire. I was flattered to be asked and so I really wanted to put in the work on this one. You know, go deep. It was made with love. I hope you feel it. There’s a track list on the site. Stepping into 2011 I thought I’d warm up by having a little go at Bilal’s track “Robots” for the Plug Research remix competition. Hit the image to check it out….

A few things have been delayed this year and I’ve kind of had my head down working on the next album. So Natural Self material has been a little thin on the ground of late. That makes me a little sad. I don’t like feeling sad so I decided to do something about it. I got all spontaneous and made a new track, very quickly without worrying about rough edges. I then uploaded it so that you can download it. Direct from me to you. And it’s free. If you need me to tell you to click on the image to get the track the you’ve obviously not been here before. Groovement is a radio show and music blog based in Manchester, England. It is headed by a certain Agent J, who for a number of years now has put in sterling work representing the many musical forms emanating from the hip hop axis. The man is committed, believe. The radio show has recently moved onto the FM frequencies, a well deserved step up for the operation.

There is a bunch of great people doing great stuff featured on Groovement so I was honored to be asked to do a mix for them. Just click the image for the download ya’ll.

I am a bad person. As well it being the ‘go-to’ spot for all things Natural Self I had always intended this web-site to host lots of music by other people too, usually in the form of mixes by myself and others. I have largely failed in this ambition. But I’m not going to cry about it, I’m going to do something about it.

I met Mr Black, the man behind the excellent blog Musik Line sortly after I moved to London a few months ago. I had been told in advance of his serious enthusiasm and ample knowledge of reggae music. Now reggae is a music I have always loved yet never had the time (or money) to fully investigate. So I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to reach out to someone like Crofton, who has provided a selection that is the fruit of years of love and dedication. He even asked what  style I wanted in the mix. I answered that it’s the roots sound that I love first and foremost. That request was honored in fine style and is made up of the following tunes, righteous and dignified.

Ok my good people, I’m very happy to announce that the Remix and Versions EP is now available. Featuring a bunch of great people (as you can see above) it is released in various digital formats via Tru-Thoughts recordings. Here’s the second in my series of tropical remixes. This time it’s something from Ghana. The original is a ballad on a pretty solid funk groove. Unfortunately the vocals are a little corny so I decided to really chop this one up to it working.

As will be the case with everything in this series, it must be played loud. Then you’ll feel it!

Since doing the Sofrito remixes I just been fiending to do some more stuff along those lines. So I did. It’s a rough and ready treatment on a reat Cumbia by Peregoyo and his crew. It’s done out of love and and all due respect to the original. The record is from my collection but I recently hung out with Hugo and he gave me some stuff he wants to hear worked into a more modern club style. So, there’ll be more to come over the next few weeks…..
